Bengaluru: The deadly online game Blue Whale Challenge has quietly made its presence felt in the IT city with two teenagers being rescued after they were found playing it. In the last stage of the game the participant commits suicide.
The two boys, aged 18 and 19, are second year commerce students of a reputed college in the city. They were rescued when their alert friends informed their teachers after seeing their WhatsApp status ending with a blue whale symbol. The boys had reportedly completed two tasks and had started playing the third one.
Their friends brought the incident to the notice of the teachers, who raised the issue with the college principal, who then approached the cops. The duo was counseled by a special team of Vanitha Sahayavani at at the police commissionerate which was specially formed to counsel children playing the game. Though it was the first case of blue whale in the city, the team was formed considering the popularity of the game among teens. According to Rani Shetty, head, Vanitha Sahayavani, one of the boys confessed to playing the Blue Whale game and also told her during the counseling that the other boy who is his childhood friend insisted him to play the game.
