Bangalore- Wi-Fi on BMTC: Trial starts with 10 buses

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has started a free trial of Wi-Fi services in 10 AC bus. Meanwhile, the BMTC plans to provide Wi-Fi services in 200 AC buses, including those plying on Kempe Gowda International Airport routes. A few buses, with the Wi-Fi, are playing on Hebbal- Silk Board and Chikkabanavara-Majestic routes.

Ekroop Cuar, MD, BMTC, said, “The contractor started a trial run on ten buses and informed us that service would be provided in remaining 190 AC in a phased manner. We have also floated tender to provide Wi-Fi services in 500 ordinary buses.”

The BMTC has a fleet of more than 600 AC buses and the majority of them are operated on IT corridors like Whitefield, Electronic City, Airport services. As the travel time has increased over the years, the Wi-Fi facilities come as big relief for the passengers.

A BMTC official said, “There was a good passenger feedback during the trial run. The passengers could watch movies and see other entertainment programs. The service will be used by a number of people as it gets extended in another fleet.”
