Bengaluru’s tryst with fury – Axing trees on pretext of monsoon is not allowed: BBMP chief

A night of thunderstorms, and the city turns into chaos. Besides the deluge that occurs due to poor planning and infrastructural support in the recent past, a new problem has sprung: Uprooting of trees damaging both public and private property, especially overhead utilities.

A rough estimate shows that the city has lost almost 200 trees in a month and that also just during the pre-monsoon shower. A few cases have been fatal where cars have been damaged and there were even reports of citizens being injured after being hit by falling trees. But as usual, the bureaucratic apathy surrounding the matter has been grave.
